Our Ballad in Soil
This chapbook follows a young woman who must complete an insurmountable task: burying the dead in her town.
"Our Ballad in Soil" invites you to interrogate our relationship with loss. Though a work of fantasy, the short story highlights the binding nature of music and how we honor the memories of those who have passed on.

Who is she?
I’m a Nigerian-American writer from Chicago with a background in fiction and museum education. I have a chapbook published through Sword and Kettle Press, two Pushcart Prize-nominated short stories, and an award-winning Master's thesis.
Currently, I work as a copywriter and editor with experience on high-revenue, B2B and B2C clients. My skillset includes crafting brand identity + expression work, internal + external communications, short-form video scripts, SEO-optimized webpage copy, social media posts, out-of-home advertising, and more. I approach copywriting with a storytelling mindset by conducting client interviews and having collaborative ideation. Whether it's freelance or full-time work, I'm a detailed, nimble writer who can jump between projects in any industry.
Art, music, and nature have long been inspirations in all my writing, which is why I craft atmospheric environments through words. My fiction work centers Black characters who are vulnerable and gentle, brave and scared, reckless and sad. They embody a range of emotions that makes them truly human.
The stories I write bathe the mundane with magic to show that a better world is possible.
